Tommie K. Bogolawski, 41 of Port St Lucie, Florida passed away on Sunday April 27, in his home surrounded by his family after a short battle with Liver Cancer. Tommie was born in Saigon, Vietnam on 1/11/67, moved to the United States in 1975 and was raised in Portland, Maine. A graduate of Portland High School in 1986. Tommie was predeceased by his father Joseph E.Bogolawski, Sr. and two brothers Duc H. and Dan N. Nguyen.
He is survived by his Mother, Xinh Bogolawski and brothers, Tri Nguyen, Charlie, Joseph and John Bogolawski, sister Mary K. French and son Aidan Bogolawski. He was a dedicated and devoted father to his 10 year old son. Prior to his relocation to Florida, he was an instructor for Fourniers Olympic Karate and also worked at the Great Lost Bear Restaurant in Portland, Maine where he was well known and liked by all. Tommie was an owner of a thriving school in Port St. Lucie, the Kaizen Leadership Karate school where he was recognized as a Sensei and master of the art of Japanese GOJU RYU. Tommie was a passionate advocate for the community of Port St Lucie, and a strong believer in self discipline and improvement. When asked how many children he had, Tommie always proudly replied "I have about one hundred and fifty". This showed how much love and care he had for all of the children in his programs. He implemented the first Transport Afterschool Karate Program in coordination with the St. Lucie County School System. He recently received awards from the State of Florida for Outstanding Support of Education and the St. Lucie County Business Leadership Recognition Award for 2008. Tom was a beautiful soul. His passion for life inspired the lives of all those he touched. We are proud of the life he lead and we will miss him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, at 11:00a.m. at Byrd, Young, & Prill on Bayshore Boulevard at 1170 SW Bayshore Boulevard in Port St. Lucie. An additional memorial service will be held in Portland, ME at a future date to be announced.
